Lussmanns St Albans: a review

You know those restaurants that sit on your “I must go there soon” list for so long they practically start paying rent? That was Lussmanns St Albans for me. I keep seeing it and wanting to visit, but never getting the chance. But finally, attending a family lunch gave me the opportunity I needed to visit.

The decor is classy without being snooty and then there are the books on the wall. Actual books. As decor. It’s like someone whispered, “What if we made a restaurant that feels like a very elegant library where you’re also allowed to eat steak?” and everyone agreed immediately.

Despite us arriving as a large, excitable herd, our waiter handled the whole situation with good humour. Everything was really well managed and made me feel relaxed.

What to Eat

I really recommend the steak. It was gloriously tender, and made it difficult to eat any other steaks for a long time afterwards.

What to Drink

Lussmanns St Albans let us bring our own wine which was great (although they charge to uncork). So because of this, I can’t really talk about the drinks, but y’know, I’m sure they’re great.

Anything Else

If you’re planning a family lunch, Lussmanns is a dream. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished and the decor makes you feel like you’re dining somewhere special without needing to whisper.

A few things- if you’re dining with a large group, be warned that they will make you order off the group menu. This limits your choices. I didn’t find this too much of an issue, but it might be a problem if you have certain dietary choices.

I would definitely say Lussmanns St Albans was worth the wait- the food was fantastic. I would visit again if I had the chance.
