Foodie Adventures in the Scottish Highlands

I hope your 2022 is off to a good start so far? As well as wanting to be a food blogger, I’ve always fancied being a travel blogger. What could be better than travelling the world, writing about my experiences of eating great food and seeing interesting sights? Travel blogging is not quite an area I’ve cracked yet, but I still enjoy talking about the food I’ve eaten in the places I’ve visited. My trip to the Scottish Highlands last Autumn is perfect for that. Most of my food choices were centered around Inverness as it is the capital of the Highlands. Inverness is full of visitors who want to…

    Adventures on a “millenial” railcard

Those kind folks at Network Rail have introduced a 26- 30 card, dubbed the “millennial card” to give those aged between the magical ages of 26 to 30, the opportunity to enjoy train travel with a third off the price. I was delighted when I found this out because, by an accident of birth, I qualify for one. Unfortunately, I can only use it for one year as I will be 31 by the time the railcard expires. But hey, let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. So, for the price of £30, I am now the happy possessor of a 26- 30 railcard. I…

    Amsterdam- A Love Match

If I were to come across Amsterdam on a certain dating app, I would definitely swipe right, as Amsterdam is my travel match. It has been saddled with the reputation of being a city you go to if you want to smoke a bit of the other stuff, but last year was voted as the culture capital of the world. I fell in love with Amsterdam when I read Jesse Burton’s The Miniaturist. I have wanted to visit Amsterdam for some time, so I was particularly pleased when I got the opportunity to go last year. We went to Amsterdam in the spring, so I spent the days before my trip…

    Winter Lights Festival

If you’re in London before the 27th January, make sure you check out the Winter Lights in Canary Wharf. These are free to view and are really recommended. Here is my article about them for Weekend Notes: www.weekendnotes.co.uk/winter-lights-canary-wharf/

    A Tale of Two Cities

Today I am super excited as tomorrow I’m visiting Nottingham, my adopted home. I am going to a friend’s birthday celebration tomorrow evening and then going with my friends to the pantomime on Sunday (haven’t been for 20 years). Of course, we will take the opportunity to do festive things such as visiting the Winter Wonderland. Visiting different places was one of the things that I spent a lot of this summer doing.  The opening line of Charles Dickens’ novel A Tale of Two Cities:  “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” is a line that could also sum up my summer as I was able to do…

Surviving Glastonbury (or any other festival)

AKA How I learned to stop worrying and love the long- drops So last week I came back from Glastonbury festival. You don’t need me to tell you that Glastonbury is the greatest place on earth (although it is). For anyone who hasn’t been, it is super hard to explain what is amazing about it. It’s like a city with different districts, the best nightlife and a daytime world that constantly keeps you stimulated. When I went the first time in 2014, even though I enjoyed it, I was pleased to come home, mainly as I relished the opportunity of sleeping in a proper bed. However, this time I actually got hardcore…

Losing a few hours in the Victoria and Albert Museum

If you want to visit somewhere that is a treasure trove of amazing things to see, as well as being free to enter, then the Victoria and Albert Museum in London is ideal. It is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design, with a permanent collection of over 4.5 million artefacts. With this in mind, you can imagine how easy it is to lose yourself in this vast gallery of beautiful and fascinating objects. Upon entering the museum, you will find yourself with a huge amount of choices of where to start. The layout is confusing admittedly, but if you don’t mind where you go, then it is…

    Why you should visit Edinburgh

In August I was lucky enough to visit Edinburgh for the first time. Not only was it my first visit to Edinburgh, it was my first visit to Scotland. And we were so lucky. The weather was delightful, perfect for sightseeing. The Fringe festival was also on, which made the atmosphere feel extra special. Edinburgh is worth a visit because there is so much to see and do. You can take a stroll down the Royal Mile, wander through Holyrood Palace or pay a visit to royalty on the HMS Britannia. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to try out the local delicacies, whether it is haggis or shortbread.…
