Afternoon Tea at the Kimpton Fitzroy
London and afternoon tea are two of my favourite things, but for some reason, I had never got around to trying afternoon tea in London. My Dutch friend had always expressed an interest in having afternoon tea in England, so with this in mind, I planned a trip. There was quite a bit of competition but the rose garden decor of the Rose Garden afternoon tea in Palm Court at Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel in Bloomsbury enticed me. It also came recommended by colleagues. The whole thing was gorgeous. Everything was beautifully laid-out, with vibrant rose decor. Also, it lived up to it’s name with vividly- coloured cakes in rosy hues. It…

My food travels in the Netherlands: Utrecht
I fail at travel blogging. I’ve been back from the Netherlands for over a month now and have been way too slow in uploading my pictures of the food we ate over there. Utrecht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, built along two tree-lined canals (the main one being Oudegracht). It is often described as Amsterdam’s little sister, but has a character of its own. It is also a foodie dream! Here is a round- up of some of the food I ate in Utrecht: Oude Muntkelder The Netherlands is known for its stroopwaffel, but is also big on its pancakes, with a pancake house on every…

Stand Up to Cancer Bake-Off
One of the lovely things about working where I do is the sheer amount of cake! This week we got to sample these baked beauties as part of the Cancer Research UK’s very own Bake-off, to coincide with the Stand Up To Cancer version currently being broadcast. I didn’t join in with the baking, but I did taste- of course! The bottom one had a lovely, sparkly design, which you can’t pick up that well from the picture. There were quite a selection of cakes- lots more than I’ve shown here. All proceeds went to Stand Up to Cancer, so what’s not to like? Makes me want to start baking…

About last night…Mexican authenticity
I came across Santo Remedio completely by accident, purely because I’ve walked by it a few times and thought it looked cosy. It was a happy accident though, as Santo Remedio has appeared on several lists of the best Mexican restaurants in London. I adore Mexican food so this is my idea of a good night. Last night we gave it a try and actually managed to get a table (it’s been difficult in the past). Santo Remedio is beautifully lit and highly inviting. The decor is gorgeous as well. So the food…every dish we ate was excellent, from the tacos to the enchiladas and the octopus (an interesting riff…

Lemon Victoria Sponge, The Yorkshire Bridge
Only crazy (or tough-as-nails) folks go walking in the Peak District on a bitterly cold winter’s day, right? But it is totally and utterly worth it when you can duck into a cosy warm pub afterwards for a hot chocolate and a slab of Lemon Victoria Sponge, like this one: The Yorkshire Bridge, Ladybower Reservoir

Very Easy Mince Pies Recipe
Hope you’ve all been enjoying a wonderful Christmas time! I certainly have and one of the things I’ve been doing is taking the opportunity to bake some festive treats. I love mince pies and especially enjoy making my own. If you have some mincemeat left over, or fancy extending the Christmas festivities (after all, Christmas doesn’t officially end until January 6th), then you might like to give this recipe a try. It was given to me by a colleague, who got it from the BBC Good Food website. I guarantee it makes gorgeous mince pies. Ingredients 225g cold butter, diced 350g plain flour 1 sugar 100g golden caster sugar 280g…
