Christmas Markets
A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to visit both Winter Wonderland and the Mill Street Winter Fair in Cambridge.
The Mill Street Fair was a lovely day out, with shops and restaurants selling food all along the road. There was, of course, the traditional stalls, as well as street entertainment.
It was quite busy, but not too much. My friend and I even ducked into a church to listen to a choir and have a go on their tombola.
I am definitely interested in going next year!
Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London is a different kettle of fish. Now in its 7th year, it is a popular tourist attraction and this year has been running between the 22nd November until the 4th January. I came expecting a Germany style market, however I found the event to be extremely commercial and very crowded. Parts of it resembled a giant fairground and the Mulled Wine was quite sweet and overpriced.
That said, it is still worth a visit, even if just purely to enjoy the spectacle. It’s free to enter, which is a bonus and is full of lots of little stalls. It is a good way to spend an afternoon and I would not rule out the possibility of going another time.
