Exploring Barcelona’s Best Restaurants: A Food Lover’s Guide

Barcelona is one of my all-time favourite cities. Known for its stunning architecture, especially landmarks like the iconic Sagrada Familia, it’s no surprise that the city attracted over 26 million visitors in 2023. From Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces to its world-renowned food scene, Barcelona offers an unforgettable experience for both the eyes and the taste buds.

I wrote a blog post last year about two great restaurants I tried during my visit to Barcelona, and after returning a few months ago, I discovered even more must-visit dining spots. So, I thought I’d share my new favourite Barcelona restaurants with you!

Time Out Market Barcelona: A Foodie’s Paradise

If you’ve ever visited the Time Out Market in New York, you’ll be just as excited to know that Barcelona has its own version! Located on the top floor of Maremagnum shopping center, Time Out Market Barcelona is home to 14 different kitchens offering a range of delicious cuisine. With communal tables and a lively, vibrant atmosphere, it’s a great place to sample multiple dishes in one spot.

When I visited, a DJ was playing, adding to the fun vibe. While it was a bit busy (even on a Sunday night), I had no trouble finding a table. I did find it slightly overwhelming compared to the New York Time Out Market, as there were so many options to choose from without clear recommendations. After circling around a few times, I finally decided on La Real Hamburguesería, famous for their Barcelona-style hearty burgers, and I wasn’t disappointed. The burgers were cooked to perfection, and the fries were crispy and delicious!

Time Out Market Barcelona is perfect if you’re in the mood for a variety of local and international cuisine under one roof. Whether you want to sample traditional Spanish food or try something new, you’ll find it here.

What I ate: The La Real Burger – a juicy beef patty topped with crispy bacon and cheddar cheese, all served on a perfectly grilled bun. As someone who doesn’t usually crave burgers, this one was a standout!

La Hacienda: A Cosy Mexican Spot in the Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter is famous for its narrow, winding streets and charming squares, but it can also be tricky when it comes to finding authentic, tasty food without falling into the tourist trap. That’s why La Hacienda was such a gem amongst Barcelona restaurants during my trip. Bright, colourful, and full of life, this Mexican restaurant offers delicious, affordable dishes in a homely setting.

With its authentic décor and cosy atmosphere, La Hacienda is the perfect place to take a break from sightseeing and enjoy some comforting Mexican food. I loved the smaller portions, which were perfect for a quick bite, but you can always make your meal more filling with some tasty nachos and guacamole. The flavours were amazing, and I felt like I was getting an authentic taste of Mexican cuisine right in the heart of Barcelona.

What I ate: The beef burrito – packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. It was a great choice!

What I drank: The sangria was so good, I couldn’t resist having more than one!

Honorable Mentions: Vivari

Another spot I’d recommend is Vivari, a charming café and bistro with a wonderful selection of fresh croissants and coffee. While I was there, I couldn’t resist trying their creamy Tagliatelle pasta – it was so delicious, and the perfect pick-me-up before heading to Parc Güell for the afternoon.
